Assembly Member Blanca Rubio (D-Baldwin Park)
On August 13, APG hosted a breakfast fundraiser for the Rubio sisters, Blanca and Susan. The Sacramento event was attended by other members of the Agricultural Presidents’ Council, with Richard Matoian and Rob Nash representing APG.
Assembly Member Blanca E. Rubio was elected in November 2016 to represent California’s 48th Assembly District. Before coming to the Assembly, Blanca spent 16 years as a teacher and 20 years in elected office, serving on the Valley County Water Board, and Baldwin Park Unified School District.
Blanca has been an ally to agriculture, making strong efforts to visit the Central Valley to get a first-hand look at the good we do for the state and educating herself on the issues that face agricultural industries. Most recently, she invited the Agricultural Presidents’ Council down to her district, where we, in turn, were given an opportunity to see how the water issue is impacted in Assembly District 48.
Candidate Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park)
Susan Rubio is a candidate for Senate District 22. Susan started her career in public office serving as City Clerk in Baldwin Park, and since 2009 has served as a Baldwin Park City Council member. In addition to the elected office, Susan has been a lifelong educator, working in her local community to help educate our next generation of leaders.
Susan also attended the APC district tour with her sister, Blanca, and has demonstrated an equal enthusiasm for working with agriculture, not against. She has a tough race ahead of her in November but confidence is high that she will prevail, to the benefit of Senate District 22, California, and agriculture.
Assembly Member Autumn Burke
On August 13th, APG Director of Government Relations Rob Nash attended a dinner fundraiser for Assembly Member Autumn Burke. The event was hosted and attended by other members of the Agricultural Presidents’ Council.
Assembly Member Burke was elected to the Assembly in 2014, where she has become a strong ally of agriculture. Though she represents a more urban district, she has taken up the cause of using bio-mass in California and is always willing to sit down with agriculture to listen to our issues. Assembly Member Burke represents Assembly District 62 in Southern California.
